Description of contentA device patented in 1933 by Louis R. Davidson and used to treat pulmonary tuberculosis. The Apparatus caused an artificial pneumothorax, that is, collapse of a lung due to the direct introduction of air into the chest cavity. The technique, used prior to the availibility of anti-tuberculosis drugs in the 1940's, was thought to allow the lung to rest and heal more quickly. [see Long's _History of the therapy of tuberculosis_ 1956 pp. 59-61]
